Assistive Technology
Assistive Technology is a device, piece of equipment or product that is used to increase, maintain or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. Our staff assists individuals with disabilities in the selection, acquisition or use of assistive technology devices.

Attendant Referral / Personal Assistance Services
Seniors and people with disabilities may need a personal attendant to assist in the activities of daily living. Marin Center for Independent Living runs a registry of carefully selected personal attendants who specialize in working with people with disabilities. We also have an online registry QuickMatch. This allows an individual to find an attendant online.

Benefits Planning
Social Security Benefits, Medi-Cal and Medicare are complex public benefit programs. Our staff will assist in the application process to acquire public benefits. We will also assist individuals on public benefits in the process of going back to work.

"Bob Roberts" Client Assistance Fund
The Fund was developed to honor the late Bob Roberts and is designed to offer financial assistance to qualified elderly and disabled persons who are actively achieving a goal towards independence.
Based on available funding, a consumer will be eligible for a one time grant of up to $500. Approved uses for the funds include:
- Grab bars and installation
- Durable medical equipment and repair
- Assistive computer software
- Work related adaptive equipment
- Eye exam and glasses
- Prescription pharmaceuticals
- Non-narcotic
Tuition assistance:
- Vocational Workshops
- Certification training
- Community College class
Items Not Covered:
- Rent, Medical Insurance/co-pay, Doctor or dentist bills, Home evaluations or other consultations, Utility or phone bills.
Our program is anticipated to start July 2008. Cash donations to the Bob Roberts Client Assistance fund are graciously accepted.

Information & Referral
Information and Referral resources are critical to an individual with a disability sustaining his/her independence they may include food, shelter, physical rehabilitation and treatment of addiction. Our staff has access to a wealth of community resource and will direct individuals to these resources.

Independent Living Skills Training
Independent Living Skills Training may include instruction in areas such as personal care, coping, financial management, social skills, and household management. This may also include education and training necessary for living in the community and participating in community activities. Our staff provides Independent Living Skills Training to people with disabilities.

Systems Change Advocacy
Marin CIL advocates on a local, statewide and national level on issues impacting individuals with disabilities such as healthcare, housing, public access and transportation. Our Systems Change Advocate is a member of The California Foundation for Independent Living Systems Change Network which is a statewide disability advocacy network of 29 Independent Living Centers and the communities they serve.
The mission of the Systems Change Network is to call to action the California Disability Communities and allies, through community organizing, advocacy, education, leadership development and coalition building to effect systems change in local, state and national issues.
